Actor Bello leads 'Change' in Jamaica

A radical revolution is being brought about in Jamaica by the Winston “Bello” Bell-led group “I am the Change”, which began on Facebook. In just under a month, the actor, comedian and pastor influenced over 500 membership registrations online alone.

”I am the Change” is  a commitment to improving Jamaica, and according to “Bello” not about pushing God.  At the official in-person meeting yesterday, Friday, August 28, persons shared what they already are doing since joining, as priority.

Among prominent business heads and organisations already carrying through with their commiments is Jean Lowrie-Chin. She represents two organisations. The OAaSIS International Foundation is now also operating in partnership with the group. OAaSIS members are already assisting children under its mission to network artists(es) in assisting young persons and other artists(es) through their skills.

The foremost step is the upcoming “Run-A-Boat” tour. The tour will see group members “running boats” in raw Jamaican terms within communities islandwide. A travelling kitchen already dedicated will provide meals, while members will play, discuss, motivate and make plans on executing projects for improving Jamaica and lifestyles bit-by-bit. Another of the listed items is to rally for the return of the Civics course in schools as one way of empowering Jamaicans on who they are in all ways conceivable.

Jamaica is now abuzz with the slang “I am the Change.”  This renewed attitude like wild fire, is a welcomed first step to change.

Jackson Jamaica Independence Celebrations

Recently, Jamaicans had their wish to meet a member of the Jackson 5 family, if not Michael Jackson, the legend, come true.

Toriano Adaryll  “Tito” Jackson, singer and guitarist himself, joined in Mello go Roun’ 2009, the official start of the country’s Independence Celebrations, held recently. Being the second eldest brother of Michael Jackson, he was the special guest of Jamaica’s Prime Minister Bruce Golding.

Mello Go Roun’, inspired by the TV series ‘Ring Ding’ with Jamaica’s loved Folklorist, the former Honourable Louise Bennett-Coverly, was staged July 30, at the National Arena. Perhaps the most popular family event on the Jamaican calendar, it was a colourful package of entertainment and culture bringing more than Jamaicans on a memorable journey through Jamaica’s history. It remains one of the premier segments for celebrations’ organizer, the Jamaica Cultural Development Centre.

For Mello Go Roun, there were deliveries in speech, music drama and dance forms designed over the years. Equally indellible were the vibrant and well thought out costumes, and props which inspired much creative energy and commitment to the task at hand by the performers.

Young and old alike were nothing less than appreciative of  the unfolding of Jamaica’s history and cultural expressions, from traditional to modern day contemporary. Among the more impacting performances were the dub – poetry piece Barrel Pickney to by the Zyem Kids, and the pulsating rendition of the Dinki Mini by the Islington Cultural Club, as was anticipated by many.
