An artist like Queen Ifrica is like reggae’s torch: she is the shining light that gives hope for the present and future of the genre. She represents an authenticity that many others, even some of those original pioneers, don’t have today.
She sings how she feels, with truth as she sees it, honesty and integrity with no sugar coating or caramel to soften the impact of the realities her roots commentary care to focus on. She is certainly not shy to shine that light on topics others refuse to acknowledge so they tend to sweep under the carpet. This is, perhaps, the alluring part of her appeal.
Primarily she is an African woman, black, beautiful, strong and proud to embrace her ancestral culture like the flag an athlete may drape around their shoulder after winning a race meet. Likewise, Ifrica is a winner. And if there were any justice in the world, she’d be on the podium right now collecting her Gold Medal.
