It’s really no coincidence that singer Twiggi’s current single “Reaching Out To You” was inspired by her love of God and spiritual things. The church is where she began her singing and performing at age five. The influence has obviously left an indelible mark.
However, love, the song’s main subject, is universal and the themes explored are equally relevant to all lifestyles, not just the secular world.
In the video Twiggi, born 1969 in Jamaica and christened Marie Gittens, is searching her heart and bearing her soul verbally, looking quite delicious on camera, as she reaches out. She has a history of past successes behind her, including a stint at Penthouse Records. Here, she worked with Wayne Wonder, Buju Banton, the Kelly brothers, among others.
But her mezzo soprano voice is highly rated and demanded by some of the best singers in the business. These include: Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, Steel Pulse, Sizzla, Beres Hammond, Luciano, Garnett Silk, Marcia Griffiths, Buju Banton, Beenie Man and Lady Saw, just to name a few.
She also worked for international reggae artists like Alpha Blondy (South Africa), Snow (Canada), Pierpoljak (France), Nahki (Japan) and the pop superstar Sting. In many cases, Twiggi did the vocal arrangements for the tracks as well.
Twiggi could quite easily be resting on her laurels but, in fact, she is looking to widen that success. A new year promises much and maybe this is the perfect time to deliver on those promises. Watch this space…
